An Austrian artist, filmmaker, curator, and researcher based in Vienna whose practice operates at the intersection of fine arts, experimental cinema, animation, and media theory. Born in Germany and raised in rural Austria, Lang spent extended periods living and working across Europe and the United States before settling in Vienna.

Beginning his practice in fine arts - encompassing painting, sculpture, performance, and site-specific installation - Lang gradually expanded into video, animation, flicker films, and digital media. His work investigates non-linear visual design, sequence mechanics, and repetitive loop structures that deliberately subvert traditional narrative cinema.

For over 25 years, Lang has been a dedicated figure in higher education, holding long-standing faculty appointments at Webster University as well as the Austrian Universities of Applied Sciences in Eisenstadt and St. Pölten, where he instructs on animation production, media arts, and aesthetics. As a scholar and editor, his contributions to cinema studies include co-editing volumes such as Global Animation Theory and Animating Art: 130 Exhibitions of Contemporary Animated Installations.

Lang is also a driving force behind major European initiatives for experimental media and independent animation. He serves as the founder and director of UNDER_the_RADAR, Vienna’s interdisciplinary film festival and academic symposium dedicated to experimental short films and digital culture. Additionally, he has served on the boards of Künstlerhaus Wien, the European Animation Award (EAA), and ASIFA AUSTRIA, programs the Sternstudio gallery, co-curates the ASIFAKEIL gallery space in Vienna's MuseumsQuartier, and co-organizes international academic symposia across Europe in collaboration with research projects like Ecstatic Truth.

Alongside media artist Martina Tritthart, Lang co-directs Mutual Loop, an artist cooperation and cultural platform focusing on temporary, site-specific audiovisual installations.
