We cordially invite you to the workshops: "Sound in Film" during the 32nd edition of the Etiuda&Anima International Film Festival. The workshop is held in cooperation with the Krakow Technology Park – Multilab. Below is the workshops program.

Workshops program:

1. Introduction

• The role of sound in film narration
• How sound impacts viewer`s emotions and film reception
• A short overview of the stages of work with sound in film

2.  Recording on the film set

• Basics of sound engineering on the film set
• Equipment Review: microphones (boom, lavalier, shotgun), sound recorders, accessories
• Microphone positioning in relation to the actor and camera
• Dealing with difficult acoustic conditions (wind, echo, background noise)
• Communication with film crew
• Recording background sound and synchronous effects (wild tracks, ambience)

3. Sound Post-Production

• Organizing and preparing audio material for editing
• Audio Cleanup: noise reduction, noise removal
• Image and sound synchronization
• Additional Recording (ADR – Automated Dialogue Replacement) and foley
• Sound Design
• Developing space and climate with sound (background, ambience, effects, dialogues, music)
• Basics of film mixing – dialogue, effects and music proportions
• Film Sound Format: stereo, 5.1, Dolby Atmos – basic differences and importance

4.  Practical Training (workshops)

• Short recording of a dialogue scene with participants
•  Analysis of the recorded material – problems and solutions
• Attempt at basic editing and mixing for the recorded fragment
• Overview of sound sessions of completed projects

5. Summary and discussion

• Most common mistakes in film sound
• Tools and programs (from simple to professional)
• Q&A, guidelines for further independent development

Michał Korzeniowski

Acoustician by education, he holds an MSc in Acoustic Engineering from AGH University of Science and Technology. In 2012 he completed a Pro SI Complete training course in the field of sound in film organized by the Pro Sound Institute in collaboration with Hollywood studios.

Currently he owns the Nonagram recording studio and the sound postproduction studio Nonagram Media.

He has won international Audio Engineering Society awards. One of the latest films that he worked on as a sound engineer – “Mama” directed by Or Sinai – had its premiere at the Film Festival in Cannes in 2025.

His passion for many years has been recording, mixing and producing music. Currently, he is mainly focusing on sound post-production in documentary films, shorts and animations as well as on sound design combined with composing music to commercial multimedia projects and commercials.
