Six-year-old Frida Kahlo lives a distinctive, vibrant life, aided by art and a vivid imagination, which stand in her way. This advanced film explores the childhood of one of the world's most famous artists.
Frida lives with her parents and younger sister, Cristina, in a blue house on the colorful streets of a Mexican town. She is a cheerful girl with boundless energy, and her playmate is her dog, Chiquita. Frida has many uses – she is very likely to find one in the future, and she is passionate about art in her daily life. When unexpected challenges arise, support for the heroine, who is drawn to her limitless imagination, and drawing and painting become another way to express her feelings.

The idea of making an animated film freely inspired by Frida Kahlo life, and more specifically from the angle of her youth, by adapting the book ‘Frida, c’est moi’ by Sophie Faucher (text) and Cara Carmina (illustrations), seemed to us an exceptional opportunity to tackle the themes of difference and resilience.

The film highlights the saving power of imagination, creation and art. Art that heals, art that liberates, art that uplifts. ‘I never painted dreams’, said Frida. „What I represented was my reality”.
