He is an animation film director and musician. Born in Zagreb, he lived in Vienna from 1992 to 2010 and has been living and working in both cities since 2011.
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb and, from 1992 to 1998, studied painting and animation at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, Masterclass C. L. Attersee, under the mentorship of Hubert Sielecky, where he graduated.
From 2005 to 2008, he was a lecturer in classical animation at the Institute for Media Design at the University of Art and Design in Linz. In 2006, he was appointed Honorary Professor at the Animation School of Jilin College of the Arts in Changchun, China. From 2010 to 2012, he served as an artistic consultant for animated film at the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, and from 2013 to 2017, he was a member of the City of Zagreb Artistic Council for Film.
His films, including Evening Star (1993), Leckdonalds (1995), The Cake (1997), Sun, Salt and Sea (1997), Ich kann es mir sehr gut vorstellen (I Can Imagine It Very Well) (2004), Kurzes Leben (Short Life) (2007, co-directed with Johanna Freise), Transparency (2015), and From Under Which Rock Did They Crawl Out (2018), have been screened at several hundred international and national film festivals and on television channels across Europe, receiving numerous international awards. He has served on numerous festival juries and has had retrospectives at festivals including Anifilm in Třeboň, Monstra in Lisbon, ITFS in Stuttgart, and Anibar in Peja.
Since 2018, he has been a professor at the Department of Animation and New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, where he served as Head of the Department from 2024 to 2026. Since 2018, he has also been involved with the European Animation Awards and currently serves as a board member. Since 2024, he has been a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscars).
From 2011-2026 he was the longest serving artistic director of the World Festival of Animated Film - Animafest Zagreb.
