The main protagonist – the Pirate Captain – is a boundless enthusiast, but often an unsuccessful terror of the seas. He is accompanied by an unfortunately useless crew and completely ignorant of the adversities, he has only one dream: to defeat his rivals – Black Bellamy and Cutlass Liz and win the desired by everybody title of the Pirate of the Year. The quest for the award takes the protagonists from the coast of the exotic Bloody Island to London`s fogbound streets. During the expedition, the pirates must face a diabolical queen and they also join forces with a young scientist who is unhappily in love. Yet they never lose sight of what every pirate loves the most: adventure!

The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists was Aardman’s second collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment. Directed by Peter Lord, the film is based on Gideon Defoe’s 2004 novel, and follows a crew of hapless pirates in their attempt to win the much coveted Pirate of the Year Award.
