    About notations
The main theme of the notation cycle is the preservation of knowledge about the Animated Film Studio in Krakow and the artistic milieu that has been associated with it ever since. The studio was established in Krakow in 1966 as a branch of the Warsaw-based Studio Miniatur Filmowych. Its initiator and founder was Kazimierz Urbański - a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, who led the Film Drawing Workshop there. In 1974, the studio acquired its legal status as well as a new name - Animated Film Studio, under which it became famous all over the world. The main focus of the studio was the production of animated, original short films, addressed to adult viewers. However, animations for children and other short films were also produced there. The leading authors of the SFA include: Jerzy Kucia, Julian Antonisz, Ryszard Antoniszczak, Ryszard Czekała, Krzysztof Kiwerski, Krzysztof Raynoch, Aleksander Sroczyński, Andrzej Warchał, Zbigniew Szymański and Longin Szmyd. The 1990s marked the beginning of a critical period for the SFA which eventually resulted in its closure in 2003. The notations will serve cognitive and documentary functions, and they will also help to disseminate cultural assets in the Lesser Poland region.

Notations: Sabina Antoniszczak on Ryszard Antoniszczak and Animated Film Studio in Krakow
      • Sabina Antoniszczak about Ryszard Antoniszczak and the Animated Film Studio in Krakow
Country: Poland, Year: 2021, Running time: 87'44''
The notation is devoted to Ryszard Antoniszczak, who was born in 1947 in Nowy Sącz, as a younger brother of Julian Józef Antonisz, a visual artist, animator, and author of books. Unfortunately, he died soon before the recording of the material started, which is why it is Sabina Antoniszczak, the daughter of Julian Antonisz, who tells about him.

He graduated from the Faculty of Painting and Graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, and he also studied in the Film Drawing Workshop there. Starting from 1974, he collaborated with the Animated Film Studio. He became well-known for his debut film "Farewell to Steam" (1974), referring to the famous "Yellow Submarine". Since 1981 he has been living in Sweden and Spain and running the Antonius Animation company. His films and books are addressed primarily to children. The notation whose protagonist is Ryszard Antoniszczak aims to preserve the memories of the artist and his relationship with the Animated Film Studio in Krakow in an audiovisual form.

Farewells: Jiří Menzel - To Make a Comedy Is No Fun (80')
      • To Make a Comedy Is No Fun / Komedia to nie zabawa. Jiři Menzel
Directed by: Robert Kolinsky, Screenplay: Robert Kolinsky, Country: Czech Republic, Year: 2016, Running time: 80'00''
Jiří Menzel’s passion was theatre - his career in film took place rather coincidentally. Despite this, the 77-year-old Czech coukd count Miloš Forman, Vera Chytilova, Ken Loach, Emir Kusturica and Istvan Szabo, among others, to his fans and friends. István Szabo even refers to himself as the biggest Menzel fan ever.

For the first time, TO MAKE A COMEDY IS NO FUN tells the story of this exceptional filmmaker.

        Jiří Menzel (1938–2020)

A Czech director, actor and screenwriter, the youngest representative of the legendary Czech new wave. An Oscar winner for “Closely Watched Trains”.

He was born in an intellectual family in Prague. His father was a journalist and screenwriter. Menzel wanted to study directing, but during exams he was told that he had no talent. So he chose film – he graduated from the FAMU Film School (Filmová a Televizní Fakulta Akademie Muzických Uméní/Film and TV School of Academy of Performing Arts). To a great extend it was Menzel`s doing that literature became the fundamental source of inspiration for the Czechoslovak new wave. All his films from the 1960s were adaptations of famous works, in which he brilliantly mixed sensuality, metaphysics and ordinariness, which smelled of sausages and was full of music played by brass orchestras. He always paid close attention to faithfulness to the original. “Capricious Summer” is the adaptation of Vladislav Vančura`s novel, whereas while working on “Crime at the Girls School” and “Crime in a Music Hall” he collaborated with Josef Škvorecky. After the Velvet Revolution he reached for, among others, the plays by Vaclav Havel. Until this day one of the most famous works by Menzel is “Closely Watched Trains” made in 1966, which is based on the prose of Hrabal.

In contrast to Miloš Forman, Vojtĕch Jasny, Ivan Passer or Jan Nĕmec, Jiří Menzel decided not to emigrate in 1968, for which decision he paid a high price. He was not allowed to make films for six years. He shut himself away in the theatre, where he found asylum.

Notations: Longin Szmyd on Animated Film Studio in Krakow
            • Longin Szmyd about the Animated Film Studio in Krakow
Country: Poland, Year: 2021, Running time: 55'19''
Born in 1955 in Bytom. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, where he studied at the Film Drawing Workshop, too. He also studied animation at the Lodz Film School. He works in the field of graphics, drawing, painting, and animated film. He has been collaborating with the Animated Film Studio in Krakow since 1982. Starting from the beginning of the 1990s, he has been running his own production studio called Longin Studio. He is the author of several dozen animated films which have been repeatedly awarded at numerous foreign and domestic film festivals (including OFAFA in Krakow).

How to make a festival eco-friendly? - ecological discussion panel
As we are aware of human responsibility for the progressing climate disaster, this year, together with other event organizers, we want to talk about what can we do for the climate when acting in the area of human activity that is closest to our hearts, namely the culture. We invite you to a joint debate and exchange of ideas and experiences related to the process of making cultural events more sustainable and eco-friendly. We wish to discuss the potential of culture for increasing the eco-awareness, motivating the public to take up eco-friendly activities or organizing culture in a sustainable way. We will talk about best practices, the most common mistakes, our ideas and ways we can inspire each other.
The discussion will take place online and will be moderated by Joanna Mieszkowicz ? the president of the Aeris Futuro Foundation.

This film is dedicated to the pioneers, the groundbreakers in art. To the people who were ahead of their time. And who were, most importantly, brave enough to go against the current. For this, they had to pay the price of their own welfare, and often even their life. The main characters of the film are writers Nikolai Gogol and Mikhail Bulgakov, director Vsevolod Meyerhold and composer Dmitry Shostakovich.

                Recollection: prof. Alicja Helman

Wypromowała Bóg wie ilu magistrantów i około pięćdziesięciu doktorów, to z pewnością rekord krajowy i europejski.?

Helman) ? chińskim filmem animowanym; a wszystko to poświadczone niespieszną podróżą do Państwa Środka.

W tych okolicznościach pozostało nam uhonorować osobę Pani Profesor spotkaniem kilku osób spośród grona jej uczniów i współpracowników, którzy podzielą się wspomnieniami i refleksjami z czasów współpracy z tą wyjątkową postacią polskiego filmoznawstwa i polskiej humanistyki. Zaproszenie do udziału w spotkaniu zostało skierowane do prof. dr hab. Grażyny Stachówny, prof. dra hab. Tadeusza Lubelskiego, prof. dra hab. Tadeusza Szczepańskiego, prof. dra hab. Andrzeja Gwoździa, prof. dra hab. Mirosława Przylipiaka, prof. dra hab. Krzysztofa Loski, prof. dra hab. Andrzeja Pitrusa, dra hab. Artura Piskorza, dr Kamili Żyto i dr Olgi Bobrowskiej.

The main protagonist of Thomas Mann's short story is Gustav von Aschenbach - a writer going through a creative crisis. In search of new stimuli, he goes to Venice - a city he knows well, which he has not visited for a long time, though. There, on the beach, he meets a teenage boy from Poland, Tadzio, who is on vacation with his mother. Fascinated with the boy’s beauty, the writer loses control of himself completely. Despite the plague in the city, he decides not to leave Venice. Thomas Mann's short story inspired Visconti to tell the story of passing – both of an individual as well as of the entire epoch.

A troupe of buskers lands on an island governed by a despotic ruler with strict police control. When, during their performance, a shot fired from a circus cannon goes astray, it triggers a series of unexpected events. A young man and woman, Drin and Tuvi, and Nathan the seagull have to enter into an uneven struggle with totalitarian power. A struggle which eventually changes the fates of all the island inhabitants – both human and feathered. With humour our adventure story deals with the timeless theme of the conflict between unlimited power on the one hand, and the desire for freedom, courage and love on the other.
