    • Chicken for Linda! / Kurczak dla Lindy! / Linda veut du poulet!
Directed by: Chiara Malta, Sébastien Laudenbach, Country: France, Year: 2023, Running time: 73'00''
Chicken for Linda! is a sweet and funny film the whole family will enjoy: a film that speaks of childhood from a child’s perspective, without being overly sentimental or exaggerating, with humor, mischief, and poetry. In this film, there are no fantasy worlds: the story takes place in the present day in a small, ordinary housing project, on the day of a general strike. There are no witches, no missions to save the world, and the only character that can fly is a… chicken!

The chicken is a MacGuffin that drives the story. It provides an opportunity for a mother and daughter to come together and grieve the husband and father who passed away several years earlier, when Linda was just one. His death created a chasm between Linda and Paulette that the film will seek to bridge. Yet the focus is not at all on death; on the contrary, it’s a story about life. The narrative gradually takes on a societal dimension: Paulette and Linda magnetically draw an increasing number of people into their quest. We move from a small two-room apartment to the main courtyard of a housing project; from a single-parent family to an entire neighborhood.

Chicken for Linda! is an ode to freedom, to revolution, to disorder, even anarchy. This vitality spreads like an oil slick that coats everything it encounters: rules, common sense, the Establishment. A film that takes us back to our childhood, like the characters who, as the story progresses, regress from responsible adults to fearful, lying, cheating, individuals who reveal their weaknesses, unafraid of ridicule. It’s an offbeat film with a sharp sense of absurdity and satire. A film that takes several tangents as its tone passes from serious to a sense of wonder, told with humor that is, at times, tainted with melancholy, to touch the inner child deep inside all of us.
    • Harpya / Harpia
Directed by: Raoul Servais, Country: Belgium, Year: 1979, Running time: 9'00''
During an evening walk, Mr. Oscar witnesses an assault. To his great surprise, he finds that the victim is an authentic harpy. His interest has been aroused, but not without danger ...
First Servais’s film attempt to combine live action images with animation. The images of live actors had to be embedded in the graphic backgrounds. Since digital technology did not yet exist at the time and the well-known 'mask' procedure turned out to be priceless, he developed his own technology with a combination of leg animation, front projection and multiplane recordings. The result was ultimately very satisfactory, but the process was extremely time consuming and could only be performed by one person.
Palme d'Or International Film Festival Cannes.
    • The Albatross / Albatros
Directed by: Paul Bush, Country: United Kingdom, Year: 1998, Running time: 14'30''
A ship sets sail on an epic voyage through malignant natural and supernatural elements from which one man alone survives. An adaptation of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner illustrated by nineteenth century wood engravings which are animated by scratching directly into the surface of colour filmstock. The Rime of the Ancient Mariner with its message of ecological redemption has a curiously contemporary resonance, but it is at the level of the mythic that the poem has lasting relevance; for this epic tale of extraordinary events simply mirrors the struggle that each human being faces on their own in his or her life.

A small Azerbaijanian family is shaken to the core by an incident. Father Samir, mother Fidan, and their eighteen-year-old son Machmud all seem to be independent-minded family members, but independence of spirit and action sometimes brings along estrangement, lack of understanding and compassion. The family beach trip turns out differently than expected.

            Free Entrance

The event comprises two basic elements. The first is the screening of the film In Side in 3D technology (the preferred screening format is passive 3D large format 4K SBS) and the presentation of the S3D Workshop. During the panel the workshop team will tell us about the ins and outs of stereoscope production focused, first of all, on stop-motion and puppet animation on the basis of the film In Side. The most important technical and artistic achievements of the S3D Workshop related to stereoscopy will be presented and discussed on the basis of the selected takes and scenes from the film. We are also hoping for animated discussion with panel participants on the future of the S3D format and its artistic potential.

              Green Etiuda&Anima: A nature-human-culture - Thematic show (72')
              Free Entrance

The etudes and animations presented at the festival show us not only the sensitivity and perspectives of their creators, but also the plethora of possible narrations about the natural environment. Once more out of all of these stories we selected those that discuss the condition of the ecosystem and the place of man in the world.

In some, man is already extinct, and the planet is doing well without them. Other present personal outlook on the events and places that go on a daily basis beyond our own perspective. Yet other ones look for symbols and metaphors to communicate even more explicitly what is going on at the crossroads of culture and nature, the space in which we function, but which we never fully learn.

Presenting the thematic selection, we invite you to reflect on what is close to us and what is indifferent, what we protect, what we fear, what we understand or what we do not realize. Art can bewilder us – through art we want again and again to marvel at the environment that surrounds us.

The artist was listened to by Katarzyna Surmacz.

The aim of the project is to draw attention to female artists studying in the Animated Film Workshop at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. We would like to stress the huge difference between the present-day animation industry and the one from the past century, when men largely dominated. We will show the prominent role of women in the world of animation and the enormous difference in topics and gender proportions since the times of the Polish People’s Republic. Currently these are the most interesting films of a profile unprecedented in Polish animation and film, which could be described as feminist or at least as made from the female point of view. It is mainly women who shape the viewer’s sensitivity to the world. Entirely different topics appear in their films about the nuances of women’s lives and bodies.

In 2022, we recorded one notation from this series, the heroine of which is Wiola Sowa. The notation was very warmly received by the audience of the 29th Etiuda&Anima International Film Festival.

We invited young Polish animation artists from Krakow to participate in the next two notations from this series Marta Pajek and Ewa Borysewicz.

Europe in Animation: Basque evening – Animakom presents (75')
              Special Guest – Pedro Rivero

The Bilbao International Animation Community Festival - ANIMAKOM FEST was born in 2017 with the goal of filling an empty space in the cultural program of Bilbao and its provincial and regional environment, making the fans reach a wide selection of the best international works of animation films that otherwise could not be publicly showed in the city.

The program consists of the screening of short films in four competitive sections (international, student, Basque short films and animated music videos) and several showcases that include a selection of the most relevant international animation film festivals, with a special focus on productions directed by women.
As the main act of the festival, the Animakom Award is given to a female director or professional of animation cinema in recognition of her career, projecting retrospective sessions on her work.

ANIMAKOM FEST is part of the Animamus Festival Network with Balkanima (Belgrad, Serbia), Flipbook (Skopje, N. Macedonia), StopTrik (Maribor, Slovenia / Lodz, Poland) and Supertoon (Sibenik, Croatia).

In the programme are Best Short Films ANIMAKOM FEST 2017-2022.

Published at the end of last year, a report by the European Audiovisual Observatory as well as a report “Equal Chances in Cinematography in Poland” (from February 2023), co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, on the participation of women in artistic film professions in the last few years still state considerable disparities. Stressing the role of women in the film industry, the 30th IFF Etiuda&Anima is planning to organize a seminar on the issue of gender equality in Polish and European cinematography.

We invited professionally active directors, cinematographers, editors and film music composers as well as female students from Polish film and music schools since being a festival promoting student creativity, we believe in grassroots changes.

                  - Earthing is a kind of protection of an electric body.
                  - Earthing is seeking contact with natural environment.
                  - Earthing is physical return to earth.
                  - Earthing is calming vibrating emotions.
                  - Earthing is a cycle whose first part will take place during the jubilee edition of IFF Etiuda&Anima.

We invite you to a sound and visual reflection on human contact with the elements.

Through sounds, colours and textures one can present stories that cannot be told with words. We include one of such stories in this year`s program and thus continue the reflection on the potential of culture to sensitize us to the natural environment. There are as many people in the audience as there are interpretations and earthing points.

In each episode they also meet other dwellers of the Kingdom and have a lot of adventures, e.g., they hide from the rain under a mushroom hat, organize a picnic for friends, dance at a ball, help the mole to build a pond, travel in a balloon, go in search of a sugar mine, get to know the importance of the Moon and the Sun, kiss frogs, ride a scooter constructed by Hamster Lumberjack, build a greenhouse, plant flowers etc. The gentle narrative of the story allows children to calm down and familiarize with the world.

This time it is the twins from Wales: June and Jennifer Gibbons who stop communicating with the world. From the grim countryside which has nothing much to offer to two black girls than humiliation, the “silent twins” flee into bright-coloured and sun-lit fantasies about writing fame, romantic love, and swimming pools full of Pepsi-Cola. However, June and Jennifer`s teen imagination, boosted by hormones, also has its dark side, just like their bond with underlying rivalry.

The workshops are addressed to those who want to look for new things. Both children with and without any musical experience can take part in them. We will look for new sounds together, we will think about what silence is and what music is. We will use various instruments, not necessarily existing ones... We will create music, improvise, experiment. We will also try to create film music.

WymiAR is an amazing journey through the secrets of vast cosmos and virtual space. Combining elements of illustration, animation, and AR technology, we bring to life motionless pictures which, with the help of a phone, come to live to take the viewer to multidimensional lands and reveal secrets hidden in them.

For the first time, we decided to prepare a new point of the program for our viewers, and at the same time a place where they will be able to experience animation in a new version. The growing presence of virtual reality indicates a new and exciting approach to storytelling and is transforming traditional ways of presenting animation. We have selected three fantastic animations for the VR Corner program, which have won awards at the most important animation festivals in the world.

Young, beautiful, well-off, ambitious, yet not very happy, searching and suffering. In Silent Land Woszczyńska returns to those two. However, the title silence has nothing idyllic in it, despite the fact the action takes place during holidays, on an Italian island, where they rent a house with a view. Full fridge, full wallets, alarm-secured door and equally tightly closed eyes guarantee protection from contact with reality. This sterile peace is ruined by a swimming pool problem. It seems minor, yet it causes imbalance that brings chaos, fear and … death. A young Arab comes to fix the pool. The Polish married couple look down on him, the presence of an immigrant disgusts them. When a tragic accident happens, their reaction is the essence of egoism.

Against the backdrop of changing seasons and seasonal field work, the story of the Boryna family and beautiful, mysterious Jagna unfolds. It is women, especially the tragic Jagna, who are in the centre of the plot. The unique microcosm of a village community becomes pretext for a universal and exceptionally up-to-date story. A story of tragic love and life in a confined community, where standards and brutal rules of the game determine a well-defined place in the group for everyone, and moving beyond the tight constrains results in humiliation and rejection.

The project of International Animated Film Workshops originated in 1996 as a joint initiative of Jerzy Kucia (the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, the Animated Film Workshop), Bogusław Zmudziński (International Film Festival “Etiuda&Anima” and Myriam Prongue (the Swiss Foundation for Culture Pro Helvetia).

Waldi (Andrzej Szeremeta) and his three sisters (Gabriela Muskała, Anna Olejnik, Magdalena Różańska) live in an old villa in the suburbs, and in the cellar live their one-hundred-year-old parents (Helena Norowicz and Stanisław Brudny), who died a few years ago. The family enjoy breakfasts together and domestic warmth, until Waldi discovers supernatural powers in himself. Then unexpected guests (Mariusz Bonaszewski and Antoni Paradowski) draw the family into a top-secret plan, forcing the late parents to pull a few strings in their afterlife. The film is alternately a crime story, melodrama, western and continuously an absurd comedy – which inevitably leads to the end of the world. But does it really?

Princess Bianca and Hamster Albert live in the land called Patchwork Kingdom, where everything is made of fabric scraps. They are preschool children who, although different in temperament, have a wonderful time together, getting to know the world and other inhabitants of the Kingdom. Each episode is a separate story about everyday life of both children and their closest friends Daddy King, Mom Queen, Stephen The Sparrow, Hamster Lumberjack, The Sun and the Moon.
