RIO 2096. UMA HISTORIA DE AMOR E FURIA / RIO 2096. THE STORY OF LOVE AND FURY
sc. Luiz Bolognesi, dir. Luiz Bolognesi, mus. Rica Amabis, Tejo Damasceno, Pupillo, prod. Buriti Filmes & Gullane, Brazil 2012, anim.
Luiz Bolognesi, a screenwriter of a world’s renown, made his debut full-length film – the first full-length Brasilian animation that was selected for a competition in Annecy.
It is an imaginative love story of Janaina and an Indian warrior which takes place within the space of 6 centuries of often painful history of Brazil: colonization, slavery, military regime and finally in the nearest future of 2096 when the country has to face the ecological catastrophe and lack of drinking water that result in a civil war. According to the authors of the film, Rio 2096 may be acknowledged as an unofficial, audiovisual history of Rio de Janeiro. The film was produced by means of traditional techniques of animation: the characters were drawn and animated with a pencil and paper on the basis of emotions performed by actors.
