Julia Loktev – an American director with Russian roots. She was born in Leningrad, but at the age of 9 she emigrated with her parents to the USA. She is a New York University graduate. She made her first feature length film, a document “Moment of Impact” (1998) herself, without the help of a film crew, and won several awards, among others at the festivals in Sundance and Karlovy Vary. Her next films are “Day night day night” (2006) and “The loneliest planet” (2011). Loktev also makes video-art. Julia Loktev is a prize winner at the festival Etiuda 1996.

A man and the woman tell each other a story, playing a private game. Their tale involves a tone-deaf cabaret singer, a slinky wine thief, and of course the death. At an certain moment, the line between the telling and the old bleeds, leaving stains on both sides.

Alex (Gael Garcia Bernal) and Nica (Hani Furstenberg), American 30-year-olds, are keen backpackers. Looking for new experiences, they try to travel off the beaten track. A few months before their wedding they reach Georgia, hire a local guide and go to the Caucasus Mountains. First days pass in relaxed atmosphere, in picturesque surroundings. However, it turns out that they are not alone in the wild mountains, and Alex`s momentary cowardly behavior will change the relation between the lovers forever.
